Hello World!

I’m Gabbie Stroud. Welcome to my website. If I’d known you were popping over, I would’ve tidied up a bit! Just step over the unfinished manuscripts and come on through… I’ll put the kettle on.

So to recap, I’m a novelist and recovering teacher. After years of juggling the demands of the primary classroom, I made the painful decision to leave the profession I had loved. In 2016, I wrote a critical commentary of Australia’s education system that was published in Griffith Review’s Edition 51 Fixing the System. This essay went gang-busters – and nobody was more surprised than me. I was even shortlisted for a Walkley Award!

Then, at the ripe old age of forty, I went on to write my memoir and the surprises just kept coming! Teacher, was an immediate best-seller! It was shortlisted for Biography Book of the Year at the 2018 Australian Book Industry Awards and according to people qualified to say these things… Teacher “continues to contribute to the national dialogue on education”. Following that, in 2020 my next book was published. Dear Parents, offered a passionate call to arms for all parents to recognise themselves as the first and lifelong educator of their children.

In 2023, I made the leap into fiction and my debut novel for adults was released. Centred around the drama of a regional school community, The Things That Matter Most, was published to wide acclaim and was longlisted for Best Debut Fiction at the Indie Book Awards. But wait, there’s more… it’s also been optioned for a screen adaptation with Henceforth Productions! Watch this space. I promise to keep you posted.

The Angry Wives Club is my latest book. Again, it’s fiction but it’s a huge departure from all the writing I’ve done about education. This is a story about women and friendship, families and relationships. It’s also brimming with hope and laugh-out-loud moments. The best thing is, you don’t have to be an angry wife to enjoy it.

I live on Yuin Country on the far south coast of New South Wales with my amazing daughters, Olivia and Sophie, who share my passion for laughter, swimming, ice cream and reading. I’m also passionate about Clint Wilkie, the love of my life, who I managed to snag as a husband. Yay!

So, welcome to my patch, have a good look around. Sign up for my newsy newsletter and just make yourself at home. It’s great to have you here.

Love Gabbie
